November 2017

03   K.S.A. Membership Table at Tags – We’ll be at Tags on 4th Avenue in Whitehorse from 12.00 till 18.00 answering your questions and doing 2017/2018 K.S.A. Memberships. Come see us and we can issue your 2017/2018 Membership cards on the spot!

06   K.S.A. Annual General Meeting – Meeting starts at 7 pm at Sport Yukon (4061 4th Ave in Whitehorse), board room 2, use centre door. We’ll be reviewing the past year, electing the 2017/2018 Board of Directors, and then discussing the upcoming year. Everyone is welcome to attend, so come on out and share your ideas for the upcoming season!

30   Yukon Avalanche Association Presents: Ski Movie Night and Kick off to the HZR – Thursday 30th November from 6:30pm – 9:30pm. There will be ski/snowboard movies, plus YAA will be doing MIN reporting and avalanche awareness presentations. There will be door prizes and a silent auction, we even have a free sled rental donated! All the AST providers will be there, so people can sign up – there is even sled versions available for those interested. Please contact the Yukon Avalanche Association for further details.

20-28 International Snowmobile Safety Week – January 20th through 28th 2018 is International Snowmobile Safety Week, check out www.snowmobile.org for details! Snowmobile safety information, ice safety information, avalanche safety information, and a quick reference guide to snowmobiling safely are also available on our K.S.A. Safety page.

26 or 27 or 28 K.S.A. Aurora Ride – The K.S.A. will be hosting an evening group ride from Whitehorse out over Mt McIntyre and down into the darkness of Fish Lake to hopefully catch some amazing Aurora Borealis viewing. The ride is planned for either Friday January 26th, Saturday January 27th, or Sunday January 28th weather dependent of course. Please check this page on Friday January 26th for confirmation. We will be meeting at the staging area where the Copper Haul Road meets the Fish Lake road and the ride will depart at 18.30. The K.S.A. will lead the way however each rider will be responsible for their own sled, gas and gear.

10-19 Take A Friend Snowmobiling Week – February 10th through 19th 2018 is International Take a Friend Snowmobiling week! Check out www.gosnowmobiling.org for details.

10   K.S.A. Take A Friend Snowmobiling Group Ride – As part of International Take a Friend Snowmobiling Week, the K.S.A. will be hosting a Saturday afternoon Take A Friend Snowmobiling group ride in the Whitehorse area. Do you know someone who isn’t a snowmobiler but is interested in giving it a try? Bring them along! Do you know anyone who snowmobiled in the past but hasn’t been out lately? Tell them to dust off their gear and come out! Please note the K.S.A. will lead the way but each participant will be responsible for their own snowmobile, riding gear, gas, etc. Please dress appropriately and bring enough gas etc. for a couple hours of riding. We will meet at the Fish Lake Road / Copper Haul Trail staging area at 11 am, and then choosing a route as a group. We are planning to keep to fairly easy trails for beginner riders.

The K.S.A.’s annual family ice fishing day is back! Everyone is welcome to attend so grab your rods, fire up your snowmobiles, and come on out. We’ll have a fire going to keep warm and cook some lunch, and an ice auger ready for additional holes. Please note this is a purely for fun event, and not a competition or derby of any kind. Please bring your own fishing gear, and a valid Yukon angling license is required (please visit Environment Yukon for details regarding Yukon angling licenses and regulations).

03    K.S.A. Annual Dawson Overland Trail Group Ride – On March 3rd, 2018 the K.S.A. will be hosting our annual group snowmobile ride from Whitehorse to Braeburn on the historic Dawson Overland Trail (pending adequate snow, trail and weather conditions – please check with us the evening prior for confirmation). All riders are welcome to come but please note this is a full day of riding with a round trip of approximately 200 km on a remote wilderness trail. The K.S.A. will lead the way but each rider will be responsible for their own sled, gas, food, equipment, and transport to and from the staging area. We will be meeting at 8 am at the staging area on the Takhini River Road (Go down the Takhini Hot Springs Road, turn left onto Takhini River Road about 0.5 kilometer before the hot springs, and then the staging area is on the left side of the road approximately 8 km up, clearly marked with signs.), we will be having lunch at Braeburn Lodge, and then we’ll be returning to the staging area some time that evening. In addition to lunch at Braeburn Lodge we will also be stopping for a short break at several historic sites and scenic veiwpoints along the way.

30   K.S.A. 2017/2018 Memberships Expire – All 2017/2018 Klondike Snowmobile Association memberships expire on 30 September 2018. Be sure to send in your renewal early so we can mail you a 2018/2019 card before your 2017/2018 card expires. Notes: * Pursuant to Section 12 (1) of the National Historic Parks General Regulations, the use of over-snow vehicles in the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site of Canada (CTNHS) is designated as restricted, prohibiting their use during NON- MOTORIZED weekends.  This includes the operation, loading, and unloading of over-snow vehicles in the entire CTNHS, including the Log Cabin parking lot.  Non-motorized weekends include all of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday and are generally scheduled as every third weekend throughout the winter season, as identified on the above schedule.  All other days are considered “multi-use” with snowmobiles allowed. The schedule for each season is usually made available some time in November and posted here shortly after.  Any questions or comments regarding the CTNHS please contact Parks Canada at (867) 667-3910 or 1-800-661-0486, or visit http://www.pc.gc.ca/en/lhn-nhs/yt/chilkoot/visit/comportements-guidelines/hiver-strat-winter.
