Easter Weekend Tatshenshini-Alsek (Haines Summit) Snowmobile Safety Reminder
14 March 2024 – Klondike Snowmobile Association
Hello mountain snowmobilers! BC Parks has kindly asked us to share a quick safety message regarding easter weekend snowmobiling in the Tatshenshini-Alsek area, commonly known as the Haines Summit.
Snowmobile use continues to be allowed within the Tatshenshini-Alsek Park, as long as all snowmobilers remain within the boundaries of the approved snowmobiling area and some basic rules are followed…
Snowmobile season is here! Snow enthusiasts planning on heading into the backcountry within Tatshenshini-Alsek Park are reminded of the following:
1. Stay within the designated snowmobile zone – learn the boundaries by downloading the snowmobile map or a KMZ file.
2. Check the Avalanche Canada website for updated forecasts for the Haines Road and be aware of snow conditions. All snowmobilers travelling in the backcountry are doing so at their own risk. Snowmobilers should be experienced and trained in winter/spring recreation, carry all proper safety equipment, and be prepared in avalanche safety and companion rescues.
3. Ride responsibly. Review the Tatshenshini Alsek snowmobile brochure.
4. Be a responsible recreator. Leave no trace – pack out what you pack in, respect wildlife, obey staff and signage, and treat other park users respectfully.
5. Don’t drink and ride, and remember…
6. Snowmobiling in Tatshenshini-Alsek Park is a privilege, not a right.
BC Parks staff alongside other agencies will be patrolling Tatshenshini-Alsek Park during the snowmobile season to monitor public safely and compliance. We wish you a fun, safe, and enjoyable adventure – thank you in advance for you your compliance.
Have fun out there and please be kind and be safe!
