Yukon Energy Selects Copper Haul Site For New Power Station

Yukon Energy has selected the proposed Copper Haul site for one of the two new power stations to be built in the coming years. The site selected is on the west side of the Copper Haul Road near the McLean Lake Road intersection.

The proposed new site should not directly displace any existing motorized multi-use trails, however it will mean that the gates at the top of McLean Lake Trail will need to be moved and small section of the Copper Haul will need to remain plowed year-round for access to the site.

Yukon Energy did reach out directly to the Klondike Snowmobile Association early in the consultation phases and we’ve already had some discussions regarding the potential impacts of this project on snowmobilers and on the Trans Canada Trail in general.

Now that the site has been confirmed the Klondike Snowmobile Association and Yukon Energy will be working together in the coming months to plan and establish a viable year-round multi-use corridor that can remain open, practical, and safe to use during the full life span of this project.
