Klondike Snowmobile Association Update
05 November 2019 – Klondike Snowmobile Association
The Klondike Snowmobile Association held our Annual General Meeting on 04 November 2019. We reviewed the previous year, elected our new Board of Directors, then proceeded to discuss a variety of new and old business. We are happy to say that we are going into 2019/2020 season in good shape.
Our organization remains strong and financially stable, which will allow us to continue working for you year-round. Our 2019/2020 Board of Directors is much the same as 2018/2019, with the addition of one new Director. If you are interested in learning more about how we operate everyone is welcome to attend any of our monthly board meetings, the dates and times are listed on our events page.
Our membership numbers also continue to be strong. Two months into our 2019/2020 membership season we already have well over 800 current members, and forms are still coming in. If you haven’t renewed your membership yet or you are interested in signing up as a new member check out our membership page, there you’ll an online application & renewal form you can fill out and submit any time.
Our membership benefits have changed slightly. The owners of McDonald’s restaurants in Whitehorse have unfortunately ended our membership discount at their restaurants, due to their standardized point of sale systems making it increasingly difficult to offer local discounts without unreasonable time and effort from the staff on each and every discounted transaction. They will however continue to be a Corporate Member of the K.S.A. and have been actively working with the K.S.A. Board to find alternative ways to support Yukon snowmobilers. In other membership benefit news we have gained a new benefit thanks to Fountain Tire in Whitehorse, they are now a Corporate Member of the K.S.A. and are offering all K.S.A. Members 5% off any regularly priced tires and parts. Stop by and check them out!
Another change many of our members will have noticed is with SnoRiders magazine. They have recently announced that they are no longer producing their magazine in print after the current edition, and instead they will be shifting to an entirely on-line publication. As far as we know all K.S.A. members will still have access to new editions of SnoRiders magazine, it will just be in electronic form only. The K.S.A. Board is currently working with the team at SnoRiders to establish what is next for our quarterly K.S.A. newsletter, which has been coming to you with your SnoRiders magazines. We will post an update on that once we have established a plan.
There are several trail improvement projects in the works for the Whitehorse area. We are currently working with the City of Whitehorse, the Yukon Government, and several other groups on these. One of many examples is potential for continued fire smarting along sections of The Great Trail in the Whitehorse area, and we will be actively working with all involved to ensure that when the project is complete the trail will continue to be suitable and safe for snowmobilers and other user groups. For further information on specific projects in your area please feel free to contact us.
Also on the horizon we have several events planned for the upcoming snowmobile season. Some are annual traditions and some are new ideas, check them out today on our Events page! Please check back often as we will be adding dates, updating details, and adding additional events as more information becomes available. If you are interested in any of these events, looking for more information, would like to request specific dates, would like to volunteer at an event, or have ideas for new events, please do let us know.
Welcome to the 2019/2020 season and we look forward to seeing you out snowmobiling soon!
