Klondike Snowmobile Association Update
05 November 2024 – Klondike Snowmobile Association
Another winter us upon us, and so far it’s shaping up to be an excellent winter for snowmobiling in the Yukon!
Our Annual General Meeting was held this past Monday and several members as well as the entire board attended. During the meeting we reviewed the past year, looked at our current status, passed around our financial sheets, elected our 2024/2025 board, and then discussed the upcoming season.
2023/2024 was another highly successful year for the Klondike Snowmobile Association, and things are looking good for another successful year coming up.
Some highlights include:
– Financials are looking good and our bank balance is healthy. Funding access has continued to be easier than in past years which allows our board to spend less time seeking funding and more time actually working on projects.
– Membership numbers are comparable to the past few seasons, consistently ending up around the 1100 mark plus about 30 corporate sponsors. These numbers are very good considering the population of the Yukon. We also continue to offer some of the best membership benefits in the territory.
– Equipment wise we recently sold the wide track Polaris we retired last year, our Kubota just came home from it’s annual tune up, and our new Skandic is now receiving the last of the mods needed for full scale grooming operations.
– Our lead groomer was recently inducted into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame for his 66 seasons of trail grooming excellence. Congratulations Harris!
– We completed several projects in the past year, including development of a new strategic plan, some Trans Canada Trail spring and fall prep, a storage facility move, some equipment upgrades, a newsletter upgrade, and more. We are continuing to work on Trans Canada Trail signage updates, we renewed our agreement with City of Whitehorse, and we have some exciting new projects on the horizon.
– We hosted a few successful group rides last winter, some Trans Canada Trail cleanup events during the summer, and we have already begun planning a series of fun group rides for this winter.
– We continued to maintain good relationships with many other groups including several local vendors and dealers, Trans Canada Trail, Canadian Council of Snowmobile Organizations, all levels of government, and several other trail user groups throughout the Yukon.
– Our 2024/2025 Board if Directors sees the return of most 2023/2024 board members, as no other members ran in the election. Some regular K.S.A. members present did offer to make an occasional appearance at board meetings and assist when able, which is a big help to the board. All of our board meetings are open nature, which means any and all K.S.A. members are welcome to attend. For more information about the K.S.A. board and how we operate please contact us any time.
– Volunteers are still working for you year round. This summer our volunteers did hundreds of hours of trail brushing, signage repairs and garbage pickup. Going forward we have several volunteers ready to start grooming as soon as snow conditions improve. In addition, volunteers are spending countless hours each and every month working behind the scenes to make sure the Klondike Snowmobile Association continues to function and that Yukon snowmobilers are being represented and heard at all levels.
We’re excited for another winter season coming up. If you are interested in volunteering with us check out our Volunteer page for more information. Also be sure to check our Events page often for details about upcoming rides and let us know where you want to ride.
Thank you for your continued support! Also, a huge thank you to all of our volunteers past and present for making it all happen!
