K.S.A. Update – COVID 19

20 March 2020 – Klondike Snowmobile AssociationUpdated 25 March 2020

In light of recent world news regarding COVID 19 / Coronavirus, the Klondike Snowmobile Association has made some temporary changes and updates to our events and meetings schedule, our membership applications, and our general operations.

To help reduce exposure to the virus the Klondike Snowmobile Association will not be hosting any more group activities for this snowmobile season.

Our grooming operations generally only involve one or two people and so grooming will continue as per normal. Other behind the scenes work will continue as much as our volunteers reasonably can considering the need for social distancing and the many temporary closures happening. We ask our membership to be patient as snowmobiling issues and projects are likely not going to be a high priority for many in the near future. Any questions or suggestions can be sent to our email at klonsnow@gmail.com.

Klondike Snowmobile Association memberships will continue to be available however we are asking everyone to please use our online membership form and e-transfer their membership fees. Due to Sport Yukon being closed for the foreseeable future the Klondike Snowmobile Association will have very limited access to our regular mail pickup and also payments at Sport Yukon may not be available. As a result any mailed in or dropped off membership forms and fees will likely not be received by us in a timely matter, so please use the online forms and payments for now. Our online form and information can be found at https://ksa.yk.ca/membership/membership-form/.

Our monthly board meetings are still planned to go ahead on the regular schedule, however we are asking anyone who is not feeling well or may have been in contact with COVID 19 to please stay home. Phone in options are available for our most of our meetings. The board is continuing to monitor the situation and may decide to postpone future meetings so please check our events page at https://ksa.yk.ca/coming-events/ the day of the meeting for confirmation.

At this time we encourage our members to continue to get out and enjoy snowmobiling. It’s a great source of recreation and stress relief that many people could use right now, and our local businesses can really use the support when it comes time to buy parts, accessories and fuel. Please do practice the recommended precautions including social distancing and frequent hand washing, and please ride extra safe out there as our health care system is very overworked right now and every effort should be made to avoid having snowmobiling injuries added to their work load.

A message has also been sent to us by Parks Canada asking us to please share with our membership that in an effort to slow the spread of COVID 19 public access to all Parks Canada sites, including the Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site and the Log Cabin parking lot, is now closed until further notice.

The Klondike Snowmobile Association board will continue to monitor the situation and we will post updates here and on our social media pages as required. In the mean time play safe and take care of each other out there!
