Spring Riding Conditions
28 March 2025 – Klondike Snowmobile Association
Spring has sprung into the Yukon! With spring weather comes spring snowmobiling conditions in many parts of the Yukon.
This time of year is a great chance to enjoy the sun while getting out for a few more rides, however there are a few extra safety thoughts we think all snowmobilers should keep in mind when riding in the Yukon at this time of the year…
- Check for recent trail reports before each ride, and please report trail conditions after each ride, at https://ksa.yk.ca/trails/trail-conditions.
- Expect snow to be hard and icy at night and morning time, which may negatively affect snowmobile handling and stopping distance.
- Expect snow to be soft and heavy during the warmer parts of the day, be careful not to get stuck.
- Ice is beginning to thin out and break up on many waterways, please use extra caution when travelling on lakes and avoid going on rivers except on designated and approved crossings.
- City of Whitehorse has now plowed most of the paved trails in Whitehorse to bare surface, and they have also plowed the Copper Haul Road. Snowmobilers will need to find alternate routes for the remainder of the season.
- Daytime temperatures are warm, but nights are still cold, so snowmobilers should always bring several layers of clothing and be prepared to add or remove layers as the day goes on.
- Snow up at the summits is still good, however there are some avalanche concerns so please check avalanche conditions before each ride.
